Six of us used this to help plan how to divide our time between a two-week trip to England and Scotland last year. In the end, in part because of the many insights this book offered, we thought we'd better not assume we could get a good sense of both countries in such a short time, and so for this trip we decided we'd only sample Scotland by visiting Edinburgh for a few days. This book helped us plan that visit well, with interesting commentary on the many ways we could spend our time.Maybe it's just the way my brain works when planning a trip, but the reason I didn't give five stars was the way the book is organized. By grouping things primarily by categories rather than primarily by geography, it seemed I had to spend a lot more time with the book to find answers while on a very narrow visit like we had. Others may not find this a frustration, though, especially if you have plenty of time for planning, and like to make sure you structure your visit with very specific experiences in mind.

It was time for a new one, and I didn't hesitate. This and our old Taste of Scotland book are what we use as guides (as well as the Undiscovered Scotland website). This is not a guide book per se, but rather provides some very accurate descriptions/ratings of hotels, restaurants, pubs, etc. We have always found Irvine's recommendations accurate and worth taking. We use this rather than a guide book frankly, but we have been to Scotland many times, which might make the difference.

Bought this based on reviews. If you are touring planning on hitting the top tourist locations, this is your book. We were touring to see the country, not visiting a city larger than Inverness, and that for a morning. Spent 5 weeks seeing the highlands, and perhaps used this book two or at most 3 times.

We have traveled to Scotland for almost 40 years now - yikes. We learned about places and experiences there by talking to people met along the way and hunches about what to do and see. This book proved to be good reading - maybe too much at times, providing worthwhile suggestions of places and things to do off the beaten track. The accommodation suggestions were often good starting points for finding places to spend several nights at a time. One hotel suggestion - with the author's disclaimer that he had not stayed there himself, but heard good reports proved to be a version of Faulty Towers - with enough quirkiness to fill a book. Beverage cans, bits of litter, broken window frame, and peeling paint at the entrance - omg - wood paneling, sparkling crystal chandelier in the lobby, holes in the carpet, hallway with no ceiling - open wires ("we are in the middle of renovations..."), a spacious, clean well appointed room with large windows and new pristine en suite bathroom, superb fish for supper cooked by the wife/partner...Susie the sheepdog mascot - highlight of the journey. Need to investigate if author maintains a web site for updates. If he doesn't, it is a good idea.

I have bought every edition of Scotland the Best since 1998, and I find it totally addictive. Let's be clear - the book is a personal selection of the author's favorite places in Scotland. If you don't already know Scotland, you'll do better with a Fodor or Lonely Planet guidebook to give you the background and orientation. However, if you want a list of great places to guide your travels then this is a great book. It includes gardens, churches, mountains, prehistoric sites and castles as well as the obvious restaurants and hotels.

fall 2016 trip to scotland -- I bought this book beforehand but had a much deeper appreciation for it ON the trip. There are maps in the back that have the locations of all the "Best" places -- which i didnt find right away, but made all the difference.

Briefly, this is probably the book that most Scots would buy when traveling around Scotland. I want the books that most Americans would buy and which do not need an interpreter. It's most likely a great insider's guide, but I'm an outsider.

This is a well researched and very comprehensive guide--best for places to stay and places to eat but also good for picking out the best sites to see and good walks. We found it very useful every day of our trip.

In this installment of Crafty Cat, we go with Birdie to craft camp held at her school. She is so excited to go but is surprised by some things that have her feeling disappointed and sad about the day.Birdie must overcome her disappointment, learn to deal with a bully, and figure out how to see things from other people's perspectives during her camp experience. While talking with her friend (a cloud) she learns to be strong and stand up for herself, that it is ok to show emotion but also to talk it out and that she needs to be able to share other interests as well as her love of crafting.This book, while a graphic novel, was on the longer side. Birdie has a lot of conflicts and I think that for younger readers these might have been better received if they had been broken up a bit. I also think that while Birdie does well in the end that she tends to be a little bossy and annoying at first and not a totally likable character - she is a bit rude sometimes.However a lot of this is made up for by the crafts and tutorials at the end of the book - they include supply lists and instructions and I think that parents and kids will really enjoy them. Most of them are paper crafts too so you won't need many things!

The main character, Birdie, can switch in to her alter-ego (Crafty Cat) when things get tough. No one else can see Crafty Cat, it is all in Birdie’s mind.This book deals with a variety of issues. Birdie must learn how to appreciate and accept that other kid’s have differing interests from her own, not just her own “crafty” interests. There is also the issue of a bully (Anya) and how Birdie deals with this. Frankly, I did not like Anya and maybe some intervention by an adult would have been warranted given Anya’s propensity for nastiness. Regardless, Birdie managed to deal with Anya. As a side note…doesn’t Anya have more depth than just being nasty? That would have been nice to see.The kids at Crafty Camp are making Monster Crafts. While creating these crafts, the reader can certainly get a sense of each child at camp. And then when they switch to the gymnasium, those personalities come out even stronger as well as a heightened sense of competitiveness. This requires more from Birdie and this is where you see Crafty Cat come out.I liked her relationship with her best friend Evan – it is heartwarming. When things did not go Birdie’s way, she did stop and forced herself to think and accept her friend and his feelings. Though I must admit for a moment, I did not think that would happen.The illustrations were fun. I enjoyed the introduction of Crafty King, just before Anya was a bit nasty again.Another aspect that I found fun is that this book has a how-to for each of the crafts at the end of the book. Excellent for those young crafters at home. So, if you have a young girl who is into crafts then Crafty Cat and the Crafty Camp Crisis may be a good book to read and craft from.

This book is excellent! I am a very happy owner of a Nutribullet, but most recipes that I can find online are pretty standard. They also tend to get old and boring quickly. This book is comprehensive – it starts off with facts about health benefits of smoothies, goes on to explain the best way to make them you’re your Nutribullet, and finally it groups the recipes by their function and purpose, such as recipes for a healthy heart, detox, weight loss, healthy skin, and anti-ageing ones to name a few. My favorite recipes include the Berry Medley, and the Chia Berry smoothie. I will try to make at least one recipe per day and see how it goes. First impressions on this book are great so far, and I am loving it already because the recipes are easy to follow, uncomplicated, and do not require obscure ingredients. The book isn’t full of pictures, which makes it easier to focus on the text, instead of being distracted by images, no matter how delicious-looking they are. I would recommend this book to all Nutribullet fans. It’s definitely a must-read!

There are several great smoothie recipes in here. What's nice is that the book is organized well. For example, the recipes are put into individual categories such as smoothies for inflammation, weight loss, detoxing, ect. I would also highly recommend the website, nutriliving.com. They have a wonderful variety of smoothie recipes for every ailment or disease out there. Awesome website!

I bought this as a gift for my friend after she bought both of us Nutribullet Machines in an effort to jumpstart her own efforts at getting healthier food in her diet. I've been making my random smoothie every morning and texting the recipe & photo to her at 6am - then she copies it in her own kitchen at 7am. (We're ridiculous, I know, but what ever works!) Next week I won't be able to keep our schedule, so I wanted to support her from afar and this book is exactly what I needed.The recipes are laid out in sections that are easy to use depending on your needs and the ingredients are readily sourced and accessible at our local grocery store. My friend has already made two smoothies from the book and liked both of them. That's a win!

Paper back book, some black & white fotos, the only color ones are for the covers, simple reading (ingredients, directions, nutitional information), easy to fallow recipes, every recipe is for the nutri-bullet. I like this book a lot. 99 pages. Compact book.

Great recipe book even if you don't have a Nutribullet. If you are considering getting this book, I would. I just wouldn't pair it with the Nutribullet. Get a better mini blender.

I love the variety of smoothie recipes and the fact that it is categorized based on what your goals are, eg: weight loss, heart health, skin health, etc
