I could not put this book down! Thre was so much actual history documented by Lewis and Clark through their journals. The story of how their meeting with a young Indian girl, how they realized her intelligence, and sense of direction, and got her to be their interpreter on their route to the Pacific coast. She is introduced to the cultures of the white man, and resolutely holds on to her native cultures. There is sadness and loss, and a great love threading throughout this story. Sacajawea was a woman far ahead of her time...beautifully written.

This is an amazing book. To read about the past, the way this author wrote you journeyed on the trail with the expedition, you could feel what Sacagawea felt, you lived in the tipi with her. Incredible, I love a story in which you immerse deep into the depths of it as if you are really there and this book does that. It is a long book and I enjoyed that as well because when you are done you are satisfied. It is also full of historical accounts written by the actual people who lived then. It is a fictional story brushed with some fact and I absolutely recommend this book!

I like to call this a 'storified' version of the Lewis and Clark expedition. Sure, it's not going to be 100% accurate historically but i think it gives you a good enough idea of the events and in such a readable form that you'll thoroughly enjoy it. It may even make you want to go read something of more substance about the events of that time. As a Brit who moved to the US in 1996, I had never heard of Lewis and Clark's adventure and was curious about it as it's often referred to in the media. I stumbled upon this book and bought it for someone else but then also read it myself. The writing is absorbing, immersing you into that world and time. I learned a lot from it and would suggest to any parent whose kids are learning about this in school to give them the book and maybe spark more interest for the subject than a dry history text is likely to impart. As the title suggests, it's all very much told from the viewpoint of Sacajawea so you're getting a woman's worldview rather than the usual white male protagonist.

I love this book ! I have the paper back but I bought the e-book so I can put the old copy up. I read this at least once a year! It shows not only the strength of Native Americans ( especially the women) but also how little they were appreciated. You also learn a good amount of history also.I was lucky enough to recently make the trip to the Wind River reservation to visit her grave, and also through Montana and saw Pompey's Pillar and Clark's signature.

The story written in detail of the Lewis and Clark expedition highlighting the biography of Sacajawea. The young female/with baby Indian guide on the expedition. Very exciting historical novel in early American history. Highly recommend.

Back when my Mom was alive, like 30 years ago, she had terminal illness and stuck in bed most of the time. She very much enjoyed thoroughly reading this true story about Native American woman who traveled with Lewis and Clark.Great read. Highly recommended.

I read this book several years ago and enjoyed it so much that I went on a search for it this year. I have the hard bound, but wanted to be able to read on the go, and the book is a little heavy. It is a work of fiction, with many documented truths intermingled through the story. In todays world of what we think is a 'hard' life, it becomes an eye opener to the sufferings of a different time, a different culture a different world. If you enjoy history I think you will love this book about Sacajawea....the hardest part is learning to spell her name!

This is the second time I have read this book. The cover looks like it will be a romance novel (God forbid), but it is a fairly accurate, historically. The voyage of Lewis and Clark is one of the great historical accomplishments made and successfully completed when our country was very young.Think about it, Jefferson was president. Until I knew better, I thought that this expedition took place around 1850, because of the western setting. This takes place when Jefferson first purchased the Louisiana territory, and when St. Louis was the West
